Prof. Gil also serves as the President of the International Federation of Catholic Universities. We look forward to your participation. Participation Fee: Free Panelists:   Prof. Isabel Capeloa Gil, President, Catholic University of Portugal   Dr. Miki Sugimura, Professor, Department of Education, Faculty of Human Sciences Moderator:   Dr. Makiko Deguchi, Director, Center for Global Education and Discovery 【Introduction of Panelists and Moderator】 ●Prof. Isabel Capeloa Gil (President, Catholic University of Portugal) Full Professor of Culture Studies and the current Rector of UCP – Catholic University of Portugal. Holds a B.A. in Modern Languages and Literatures from the University of Lisbon (1987), and an M.A. in German Studies from the same university (1992), as well as a PhD in German Language and Culture from UCP (2001). Visiting Professor in Germany (Saarbrucken, Munich), United Kingdom, Ireland (National University of Ireland), Italy (Univ. Ca Foscari, Venice), in Brazil (PUC-Rio) and in the USA (U. Pennsylvania and U. Stanford). Furthermore, she is an Honorary Fellow at the School of Advanced Studies of the University of London. From 2005 to 2012 she was Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences at the UCP. She is the Founder of The Lisbon Consortium network and leads the International Doctoral Degree Program in Culture Studies. Senior researcher and founder of the Research Centre for Communication and Culture. Large experience in leading research teams and as PI in competitive funding schemes. Advisor for DFG, Fulbright Commission and the Gulbenkian Foundation. President of IFCU &#8211; International Federation of Catholic Universities and Member of the Board of the Global Federation of Competitiveness Councils. Passionate advocate of international education and has worked consistently to develop international research networks, exploring the different ways in which the practice of the arts and humanities is pivotal to advance a more sustainable and intellectually robust global education agenda. As an advocate for women leadership, she has also been a mentor for young women entrepreneurs and for early career women academics. ●Dr. Miki Sugimura (The former Vice-President for Global Academic Affairs, Sophia University) Miki Sugimura is Professor of comparative and international education of Faculty of Human Sciences at Sophia University and has served as Visiting Professor at the United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies for Sustainability (UNU-IAS), Senior Program Officer at the Research Center for Science Systems at the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Visiting Fellow at the JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development, a board member of the UN Association of Japan, and Vice-Chair of the Promotion of Sustainability in Postgraduate Education and Research Network under UNU-IAS. She was a member of the Japanese National Commission for UNESCO (2016-2022), and President of the Japan Society for Comparative Education (2017-2023). She was a member of the International Expert Group on the revision of UNESCO&#8217;s 1974 Recommendation. ●Dr. Makiko Deguchi (Director, Center for Global Education and Discovery, Sophia University) Dr. Deguchi is a professor of the Sophia University’s Department of English Studies, Faculty of Foreign Studies. Received her Ph.D. in cultural psychology from the Department of Psychology, Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, Boston College in the U.S. Dr. Deguchi has taught in the Psychology Department at St. Lawrence University in New York, the English Department at Kobe College before accepting a position at Sophia University. Dr. Deguchi teaches courses such as &#8220;Psychology of Discrimination&#8221; and &#8220;Psychology of Positionality: Understanding Majority Privilege.&#8221; Her specialty is cultural psychology, where she studies the process of acculturation and the psychology of prejudice and discrimination of people in dominant groups.
